Welcome Caroline High School Assistant Principal, Clarence D. Collins, Ed.D.

Dr. Collins is a lifelong educator, communicator, and student advocate who is keenly focused on the importance of education, health, and well-being in marginalized families and communities. His teaching in K-12 public school focuses on German and World Language at the secondary level.  As a former NCAA Division I athlete, he has also supported student athletics by coaching football, wrestling, and track and field. He believes the most important aspects of student athletics are academic focus, citizenship, and leadership.

He holds a BA in German Studies from Duke University, an MBA from Strayer University, and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University. Dr. Collins is an experienced educator who has extensive law enforcement experience on the local and international levels. Prior to entering the field of K-12 education, his work was focused on highlighting the root causes of crime and unrest while working to permanently break poverty and oppression cycles. On the local level, he has operationalized rehabilitation and counseling programs to prepare Virginia returning citizens to seamlessly enter the workforce and reunite with their communities and families after incarceration. As a result of his work with the Virginia Department of Corrections, Dr. Collins is credentialed as a certified hostage negotiator who specializes in critical high-stakes communication. Dr. Collins has taught international cultural competence courses for senior U.S. military and civilian leaders through the Central Intelligence Agency and the University of Mary Washington.

Dr. Collins is ready to hit the ground running and looks forward to building relationships, working on student attendance, and forming partnerships with students, staff, and the community. Dr. Collins is replacing Ms. Ashley Ward who was announced as Principal in King William County.
