CHS Celebrates Black History Month with the Port Royal Podcast Series

The CHS Mass Media classes are celebrating Black History Month by honoring our fellow Carolinians on the Cavalier Connections Podcast – The Port Royal Series.

Episode 1 of The Port Royal Series honors Mrs. Cleo Coleman.

A lifelong educator and passionate preserver of history, Mrs. Coleman has dedicated her life to ensuring that the past is never forgotten.

At over 90 years old, she shares her firsthand experiences of going to school in the 1930s, painting a vivid picture of education during segregation. But her impact goes far beyond the classroom. Mrs. Coleman played a key role in preserving the one-room schoolhouse in Port Royal, a vital piece of history that stands as a testament to the resilience and determination of African American communities.

Her passion for history extends to the stage, where she has brought Harriet Tubman to life through powerful portrayals, ensuring that Tubman’s legacy continues to inspire future generations.

Join us for an unforgettable conversation as we dive into the past, celebrate Black history, and hear from a woman whose legacy is woven into the fabric of education and historical preservation.
