Social emotional learning
What is Social Emotional Learning (SEL)
The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) is transforming American education through social and emotional learning. Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process of developing and using the skills, attitudes, and knowledge that help our youth:
To identify and regulate emotions
To develop positive relationships
To make responsible decisions
CASEL’s integrated framework promotes intrapersonal, interpersonal, and cognitive competence across classrooms, schools, homes, and communities.
Our Priorities
Our goal is to anchor our SEL implementation in
Collaborative for Academic, and Social Emotional Learning (CASEL) principles while aligning our practices with Virginia Tiered System of Supports (VTSS); Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS); the Virginia Standards of Learning; and College and Career Readiness K-12.
Take time to build partnerships, deepen your understanding, and plan for SEL.
Design opportunities for adults to connect, heal, and cultivate their own SEL competencies and capacities.
Create emotionally and physically safe, supportive, and engaging learning environments that promote all students’ social and emotional development.
Use data as an opportunity to deepen relationships and continuously improve support for students, families, and staff.
